How to get to Anakao?

Port of Tulear

The town of Tuléar (Toliara) can be reached by plane (daily flights with Air Madagascar), by ‘taxi-brousse’ (collective taxis) or by private car from the capital Tananarive (Antananarivo) and from almost all the big cities.

The journey from  Tuléar to Anakao is made early in the morning using a fast and safe speed boat. Once you have left the harbour of Tuléar, you will head due south amongst  the small fishermen’s boats of Vézo. You will cross the Tropic of Capricorn at Sarodrano, the bay of St. Augustin and approximately one hour later you will arrive in the magnificient turquoise-coloured lagoon of Anakao, protected by a double coral reef.

By sea Anakao is situated  40 km (around 25 miles) from Tuléar. By road (off road), you have to travel 300 km (around 190 miles) because the bridge that crosses the river is situated inland. If you have a four-wheel drive, you will enjoy the scenery, but it will take you about eight hours.

Once you reach Anakao, the whole Longo Vezo team will be there to welcome you.
